The beauty of the mountains lies in the richness of the flora and fauna which live there: while enjoying a walk in the nature, you can see grazing cows, sheep and goats; in the woods you can meet chamois and roe deer and it’s common to hear marmots whistling.
If you’re lucky you might run into a deer at sunset or sunrise.
At a greater altitude, nearby Pizzo Tre Signori, ibex accompany you to the top.
If you take the main road between Premana and Casargo at night or in the morning, it’s very common to see foxes or badgers crossing the road.
The vegetation is plenty and varied, and it changes throughout the seasons. Every period of the year has its peculiarity and a little bit of magic.
When snow melts, the coppery meadows fill up with white and purple snowdrops which mark the beginning of spring. This season reaches the peak of beauty when the cherry trees are in bloom and the daffodils blossom in the meadows around Premana.
Contrast between the green of the meadows and the blue sky
The cherry trees wither, the sun gets hotter and the days longer: it’s the beginning of summer.
The freshness and intensity of the green trees and meadows in contrast to the blue sky make summer the perfect season to visit the mountains. In July you can marvel at the rhododendrons, beautiful pink flowers all over the territory from an altitude of 1200 m a.s.l.
In August the green begins to leave room to autumn colours like yellow and orange, adding a touch of colour to the landscape.
Around an altitude of 1400 m a.s.l. you can find raspberries and wild blueberries; they have an intense flavour, great with sugar and lemon!
August and September are the favourite months of every mushrooms lover: our woods between 1000 and 1400 m a.s.l. are full of Porcini mushrooms!
At the end of September, autumn arrives: the days become shorter, the climate fresher, rain more frequent and the woods become wonderfully coloured.
After a few weeks the period of roast chestnuts arrives: the woods around Premana are mostly chestnuts, so it’s very easy to find them even on the paths.
Autumn is the ideal time to take a walk enjoying the fresh air and the colours of nature.
The first snow: the summits turn white
In December the first snow arrives: the summits turn white, while in the village it doesn’t snow much anymore. The snow creates a magic atmosphere and a lot of chances to have fun in the mountains around Premana: sledges, snowshoeing, ski mountaineering…
January and February are the coldest months. After the last snowfalls in March, in April the snow melts and the snowdrops come back: the cycle of the Seasons has re-started.
